As Shakespeare once said, what’s in a name? Well, if you’re a Grand National winner, everything. Whether you’re a pundit or a punter, everyone always remembers the name of The National’s winners. Names like “Randy Sandwich”, “Limited Abyss” and “Psycho Ken” on the other hand mean nothing to anyone. Which just goes to show that randomly picking the daft names (which is what we do) doesn’t really work (hence we’ve never won anything). So as the most popular horse race in the world approached, we wanted to tap into that idea – the thrill of finding the horse whose name goes down in racing history. Using the names of the sport’s most memorable winners, we created a galloping run-through of the nation’s all-time favourites. Sadly, the names of William Hill’s competitors have long been forgotten.
