Fragrances have been a part of Christmas ever since the wise men first wafted Frankincense over the nativity. Whether that was Mary’s favourite perfume or simply to mask the smell of farm animals, we’ll never really know. What we do know is that almost half of the perfume sold in the UK is sold at Christmas. And even though 56% of people claim to know their other half’s scent of choice, 40% admit to panic buying perfume as a gift. So to calm people’s nerves, we made an ad that put everyone’s favourite fragrances in one easy place: a nice black box in The Perfume Shop. Using a mix of live action and 3D we added festive balloons and seasonal sparkle that gave shoppers a reassuring nod of confidence that their gift wouldn’t be going in the bin on Boxing Day, or smell anything other than divine.
